Bangladesh won from Srilanka | T20 World Cup 2024 | Group D

In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 Group D match,the war of nerves has been won by Bangladesh. After winning the toss, they invited Sri Lanka to bat first. Sri Lanka's innings got off to a strong start but they could only achieve 124/9 in their 20 overs, though, as they lost their plot in the final five overs. With a few early wickets in the chase, Sri Lanka gave Bangladesh a severe shock. But Towhid Hridoy and Litton Das combined for 63 runs to put Bangladesh on the winning track. However, Sri Lanka was not prepared to surrender easily. The match was hanging in the balance when Wanindu Hasaranga and Nuwan Thushara took a few wickets in the last stages.However, Sri Lanka suffered from not having a recognised bowler for the final two overs. With six balls left in the game, Bangladesh managed to maintain composure and win by two wickets.

The winning Bangali Captain expressed his views after the match. He said,“They bowled pretty well, in my opinion, but we should have won this comfortably on a surface like this. Crucial for Litton, who has been having some difficulty lately but demonstrated his ability today. He batted pretty well, in my opinion. Shanto continued, "Hridoy played that over in a really courageous way that really helped us."

T20 World Cup 2024 Group D Points Table:

Bangladesh with this win has earned 2 important points as it was their first match of this T20 World Cup campaign. They will play the Proteas on June 10.


Srilanka stands at the very bottom of the Group D points standings. They have no points after two games and lost against South Africa as well.
